This computer looks good to me on paper, but I am somewhat of a rookie. Due to be built into the G45 chipset - presumably part of the Eaglelake family - the X4500 supports DirectX 10 and Shader.

It's the best thing I've actually read all week, and it gives us hope that we will be able to make our graphics work. Q - Does this driver work for Intel GMA 4500 M / Intel GMA X4500 / Intel GMA X4500 HD A - Yes, the X well before was how the GPU was named upon release then Intel changed it later to M, the 4500 M GPU has a speed of 400 MHz while the 4500 MHD GPU have a speed of 533 MHz but the rest of the chip functions all about the same, Intel even have the same driver listed for both. It is loaded with Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q8300, 750GB (7200RPM)hard drive, 8GB DDR3 memory, and the Intel GMA X4500 integrated graphics and other normal stuff. Of course, the 3100 isnt Intels top-performing integrated GPU - that award goes to the GMA X3500 thats built into the companys G35 chipset, but the upcoming GMA X4500 should still deliver a big boost in the benchmarks. As was written in this thread, Intel recently released the documentation that we need to write drivers, including those for GMA 4500.

So we'll have to cross our fingers for that.Īnd finally, if all else fails, I guess we'll just have to write drivers ourselves. That's the best case scenario because we're going to get native drivers. The second is we could wait for the Macworld Expo this January and hope that we get support for GMA 4500 through the new Mac Pros (and perhaps the new Mac Minis, if Apple does release them). The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M (GMA 4500M) (sometimes also called GMA X4500 M) is a DirectX 10 capable integrated shared memory graphic card for laptops. Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500 support Microsoft DirectX10, Intel Clear Video Technology, which enable smoother HD playback. There are three things we could do: first is get another video card or replace our laptops-which is the last thing in my mind right now. It was good news to NVidia users, but not to us. As everyone knows, we were all hoping that we would be getting GMA 4500 support in the new Macbooks, but Apple decided to scrap that idea and just go with NVidia.
